The Building E25 Renovations were comprised of laboratory renovations for the Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EAPS), and Infrastructure Upgrades located on the main campus in Cambridge, MA. The project scope included the rehabilitation to offices and laboratories for portions of the 2nd and 5th floors, substantial rehabilitation to laboratories and associated offices on the 4th and 6th floors, and major infrastructure upgrades affecting the entire building.  McPhee completed all electrical renovations in the 134,755 square foot area.

McPhee provided turn-key electrical services to update major systems and to bring the research laboratories current with the latest building codes.  Work included complete upgrades to modern laboratory suites with complex heat recovery systems utilized in over 90 fume hoods in the building.  With a peak electrical work crew topping out at more than 30, McPhee was able to work within very congested operating conditions.  Creative field management kept the meticulously planned and phased project on time and budget.

Renovations were planned and phased so that occupied labs in the building were kept operational throughout the process. McPhee was required to temporarily feed items during very concise and short planned power outages required for the scope of work. This made all upgrades of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure very complex. McPhee Electric utilized an extensive temporary power network including trailer mounted generators and redundant back-up systems in order to keep all required systems up and operational during the 80 plus outages performed over a 1 year period.
